Congressman Aderholt Announces Major Infrastructure Investment in Sheffield

Washington, D.C. —Today, Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) announced a major infrastructure investment from the U.S. Department of Commerce into the city of Sheffield in Colbert County.

 

“The United States Department of Commerce informed me today that the Economic Development Administration will be investing $4,372,355 to improve the sewer infrastructure in Sheffield.  My office and I worked with the city of Sheffield to help secure this investment, and I was glad to do so.  These funds will grow the economy of Sheffield and help it to better withstand future severe weather events like flooding. As the ranking member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee which funds the U.S. Department of Commerce, I am particularly pleased to support this type of funding in Congress.”

Anticipated Impact/Outcome:

Supports redevelopment and revitalization in the region after a natural disaster.

 

Description:  This EDA investment supports the City of Sheffield and the Sheffield Utilities Board of Directors with constructing sanitary sewer enhancements along the Tennessee River in Colbert County, Alabama, a designated Opportunity Zone.  The project will assist the region with recovery efforts from the 2019 severe storms, straight line winds, tornadoes, and flooding events by renovating the City’s current sanitary sewer system to mitigate the effects of future natural disasters.  Once completed, the project will help the region create a more resilient community and assure continuity of businesses and residential operation, which will advance economic resiliency and strengthen the regional economy.
